WACCIMA @ 50: Sharta Challenges Govt On Industrial Enterprise

waccimaPresident of Warri Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (WACCIMA), Mr. Alex Sharta, has challenged the federal and state governments including individuals to strive towards establishing industries to boost youth employment in the country.

Sharta, who made the observation ahead of WACCIMA’s Golden Jubilee celebration said that industrialization remains the only solution Nigeria‘s ailing economy.

He urged Nigerians to look inward on how to internally solve the nation’s unemployment problems, just as WACCIMA has plans to launch he agricultural demonstration farm during the golden jubilee celebration scheduled to hold between April 25 to 26, 2013, at Wellington Hotel, Effurun.

“We have a vital role to play. All over the world, it is noted that the greatest generator of employment is industry. So industrialization is the greatest source of reviving any ailing nation like Nigeria. And from our name you can see that we are chamber of industry, mines and agriculture.”

He acknowledged that the task of industrialization is quite enormous for government alone to carry, hence they are making frantic efforts towards encouraging individuals and their members toward establishing industries at the middle and small scale levels.

“We are partnering with various Federal Government Intervention Fund which are geared towards establishing small and medium industries to provide employment all over the country at the national level of the chamber of commerce. To this extent, we are already at the small and medium scale industry desk and at our own level at WACCIMA we are trying to establish WACCIMA Industrial Park. All these are geared towards generating employment.”

He said that diversification of Nigeria’s interest in other sector will be a step in the right direction, adding that agriculture is another sector capable of generating employment particularly at the grassroot country. He regretted that this sector has been abandoned and stressed on the need for  rethink.

“Agriculture is the greatest generator of employment at the grassroot level. And we are encouraging agriculture. Many industrialists belongs to this Chamber and we are also taking the initiative to establish WACCIMA Demonstration Farm which will be launched during the celebration. We have acquired one hundred and fifty acre of land between Osubi, Okpe Local Government and Eku, Ethiope East Local Government Area.”
