A United State based company, MedShare has donated medical equipment worth over 1 million dollars for use in hospitals in Ndokwa land.
This was disclosed by the former legal adviser to Ndokwa Association, United States branch, Barrister Francis Obi in a chat with journalists in Asaba, Delta State recently.
According to him, the donation was made in 2006, but, unfortunately, the equipment has not been delivered to the end users because of inadequate capital to finance the movement of the equipment to Nigeria and onward movement to the deserving hospitals.
He disclosed that the donation was facilitated by Dr Ebo Otuya-led executive of the Ndokwa Association disclosing that the current executive is also, aware of the donation and are making efforts to ensure that the equipment are delivered to improve health facilities in our hospitals.
The legal expert disclosed that the member, representing Ndokwa/Ukwuani Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Nicholas Ossai is aware of the donation and is also, working with other concerned Ndokwa indigenes and organisations such as Ndokwa National Union, Ndokwa Foundation to ensure that the equipment get to Nigeria.
Barr. Obi who decried the state of facilities in hospitals in Nigeria assured that the equipment will not be obsolete as MedShare has a reputation to protect in terms of delivering quality materials which will improve the standard of living of the people.
He said Dr Ebo Otuya deserves credit for the roles he played in bringing Ndokwa people together.
According to him, “Ndokwa Association is to make life better for the people in Nigeria. They made boreholes and gave scholarships. I was the legal adviser and Ebo Otuya was the President. Med Share donated medical equipment to a tune of a million dollars in 2006.
“You have to come back and develop Nigeria, Nigerians have to develop Nigeria. The challenge to develop Nigeria is a challenge to everybody.
“I am an Ndokwa man. Ndokwa could rise up and live up to its full potentials. With unity of Ndokwa land, the sky is the limit.
Speaking on the present political trend in the country, he said “Nigeria democracy is working. Most people don’t know what democracy means. People cry no democracy when they feel their election is not regular. Democracy is deeper than election. Greece practiced it as participatory system.
“You need a free press to practice democracy. No system has monopoly of being perfect. America democracy system is not perfect.
“Nigeria democracy can get better and as for the Nigeria judicial system, it is up to all Nigerians to improve upon it.
“Apart from my law practice, I have returned to my root. It is time for Africa to retain its glory. There is so much glory that is yet to be tapped in Africa but the first thing we have to do is to look at ourselves. We tend to undermine the positive values within us.
