The Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Rt. Hon. Ned Munir Nwoko, has raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the Lagos-Asaba Expressway,.
Nwoko who met separately with the Managing Director/CEO of the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Engineer Chukwuemeka Agbasi and the Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Tuesday, September 24, following the Senate’s resumption after its eight-week recess, raised concerns about the deteriorating state of the Lagos-Asaba Expressway, specifically the stretch between Alifekide and Asaba Bridge End, which he said has become hazardous and has resulted in numerous fatalities.
Recall that Senator Nwoko, had in a post on X Tuesday evening, hinted that earlier in the day, he spoke with the Minister of Works, David Umahi, who confirmed the situation and assured that contractors would be mobilized to the site without further delays.
During his meeting with the FERMA boss, the Senator stressed that the road’s poor condition continues to endanger both lives and properties, affecting surrounding communities and road users.
The lawmaker, however urged Engineer Agbasi to give urgent attention to this particular federal road.
In response, Engineer Agbasi assured the Senator that prompt action would be taken to address the deteriorated sections of the road.
“I want to take this opportunity to commend all ministers, MD/CEOs, Heads of Departments, and other government officials who are diligently fulfilling their responsibilities,” he wrote.
