INTERNALLY displaced persons in Jere local government area of Borno State were given N100,000 each and food for Ramadan by the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Ahmed Satomi
Amount spent on the gesture put at N47 million, went into a gift of N100,000 each for 250 vulnerable individuals both males and females (N25 million) and N22 million for the procurement of several thousands bags of rice, sugar and other condiments distributed to the vulnerable individuals.
Flagging off the distribution programme at the Progressives House in Maiduguri on Tuesday, Hon. Satomi said the exercise which would be in phases is a continuous process, with the second phase slated for next week targeted at medium and small scale traders which businesses would be boosted.
The lawmaker, who is presently involved in sponsoring hundreds of students to secondary and tertiary institutions, had previously constructed schools, including two blocks of three classrooms at Zabarmari/Khadamari Junior Secondary School.
He insisted that he would leave no stone unturned to ensure that he gives quality representation at the National Assembly devoid of political, religious or ethnic considerations.
He said: “I want to seize this opportunity to thank all the people of Jere for your support and cooperation. I am sincerely grateful for giving me the privilege to represent you at the federal level.
“This gesture is part of my annual support I usually rendered to you to ease the daily hardship in the holy month of Ramadan.
“I implore you to use this period to pray for restoration of peace in Borno and the country in general to prosper in wealth and guard our youths against evil tendencies.”
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Executive Chairman of Jere Local Government Area, Hon. Umar Gujja and the All Progressives Congress (APC) Caretaker Chairman at the Council, Alhaji Kachalla Mai-Fata, thanked Satomi for the gesture which they described as timely.
The stakeholders promised to ensure judicious distribution of the cash and the food items, even as they promised their unalloyed support to the lawmaker at all times.
