The apex sociocultural umbrella body of Ozoro kingdom, Ozoro Progress Union (OPU), on Saturday, 20 April, 2019 held its annual general conference at Opute hall, Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko north local government area of Delta state.
The annual general conference, a biennial gathering of Ozoro sons and daughters living at home and in diaspora, was held to elect new officers into the executive office of OPU, following the expiration of the tenure of the incumbent executive.
Other important issues bothering on security, infrastructure, education, land disputes, electricity, town planning, and overall development of Ozoro kingdom were also discussed at the conference.
The traditional ruler of Ozoro kingdom, H.R.M, (Barr.) Anthony Uvietobore Ogbogbo, Ibuka 1, (JP), graced the occasion.
He commended the political leaders of Ozoro kingdom, including the leadership of Ozoro Progress Union (OPU) for working assiduously for the wellbeing of Ozoro people in recent times.
Continuing, the monarch charged the people of Ozoro kingdom to shun acts that could jeopardise peace and progress in the kingdom.
The conference was charged with a thunderous ovation as the Hon. Nicholas Areh led incumbent executive of OPU was unanimously declared unopposed and automatically given the mandate to pilot the affairs of the Ozoro kingdom for another two years.
In his speech, the excited president- general of OPU, Hon. Nicholas Areh, thanked God and the people of Ozoro kingdom for their collective decision to give him and other members of the executive another opportunity to run the affairs of the kingdom for another tenure of two years.
He promised to do his best to justify the trust and confidence reposed on him and the entire executive, saying that the infrastructural challenges and other matters raised at the conference will be addressed headlong.
The executive officers of Ozoro Progress Union (OPU) comprise Hon. Nicholas Areh, President-General; Mr. Emmanuel Omogwarien, Vice-president; Mr. Fredrick Egbabor, Secretary; Princess (Mrs.) Christy Ichofu, PRO; Mr. Lucky Ogoli, Treasurer; and others.
