President Goodluck Jonathan has described the Late Dr. Aloysius Ogwu, husband of Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Mrs. Joy Ogwu as a great Nigerian who distinguished himself in his chosen medical profession and also gave the nation a great woman that the country is proud of globally.
This was contained in the president’s condolence message to the Ogwu family during a funeral service held in his honour at the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ogwashi-Uku, Delta State.
The president who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Mrs. Viola Onwuliri, said Dr. Ogwu was a compassionate surgeon who contributed greatly to the growth and development of the nation, adding that the nation will miss him greatly.
He said his demise was a great loss and prayed for the repose of his soul.
On his part, the Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan who was represented by the Information Commissioner, Chike Ogeah Esq., described the late Ogwu as a great son of the State who will be greatly missed by all.
He however advised the family to take solace in the fact that he led a fulfilled life as attested to by the representative of the president and said that his death should be celebrated.
The Governor stated that Mrs. Joy Ogwu is an illustrious daughter of the State, adding that only recently, the State’s great feat in meeting the MDGs standard in health, education, water and others was acknowledged by the United Nations and noted that she is a woman whose wealth of experience has been reckoned with globally.
He stated that the State Government was particularly grateful to her, adding that the State feels a sense of loss about the death.
On his part, the Senior Special Adviser to the Delta State Governor on Foreign Relations, Mr. Oma Djeba noted that the nation has lost a great man who will be sorely missed.
The highpoint of the ceremony was the interment of the remains of the late Dr. Aloysius Ogwu in his compound at Ogwashi-Uku, Aniocha South Local Government Area.
The funeral ceremony was attended by dignitaries from within and outside the State including the Secretary to the Anambra State Government, Mr. Osaeloka Obazee and officials of the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
