The Chairman of the Delta State Council of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has described the 43rd conference of International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) held at Sofia, Bulgaria as a good opportunity to deliberate on issues affecting the transport sector in the world.
Chief Obi who attended the conference, disclosed that it was a well organized event for the transport workers, stating that the theme of the conference: “From Global Crisis to Global Justice: Transport Workers Fighting Back!” was very important especially for Nigerian delegates because of the activities of insurgents and criminals.
The Delta State NURTW Boss who spoke in Asaba thanked the National President of the drivers’ union, Alhaji Najeem Usman for ensuring the full participation of Nigeria’s delegates at the conference.
According to him, “our national President mobilized Nigerians for the conference and any where we went, we were well respected as Nigerians,”
Chief Obi said, adding, “the conference was an eye opener and good exposure for those of us who attended the conference and I thank our Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan for making our state peaceful which made it possible for me to travel to Bulgaria.
“Peace and security is very important and if the state is not peaceful, our union will not be in peace and I would not have travelled,” Chief Obi said, reiterating, “our union in Delta State is peaceful, our people are cooperating and we will implement what we learnt in Bulgaria.”
