“Whoever is greedy for unjust gain troubles his own household, but he who hates bribes will live.” –James 4:3..
The duo of Rt. Hon. Monday Owhigho Igbuya and Olorogun Williams Makinde makes a good story, as both have reached certain peak in their political careers as Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA) and Managing Director of Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC).
They have also been speculated to be greedy and fairly corrupt fellows who have risen to their present heights because of their level of political contribution to help entrench governance in one way or the other. They both hail from Sapele local government area of Delta State.
Recently, the media was awash with unconfirmed reports of Olorogun Williams Makinde’s height of alleged financial impropriety and bribery among others at the stable of DESOPADEC.
Surprisingly though, Makinde’s DESOPADEC recently cried out that it is currently under intense pressure from the Delta House of Assembly led by Speaker, Monday Igbuya to part with an undisclosed percentage of the Commission’s N28 billion annual allocation in the 2015 budget, as honorarium to legislators before it is passed into law.
Recall that Governor Ifeanyi Okowa had late last year presented N265 billion budget proposal for the 2016 fiscal year to the Delta State House of Assembly, thus setting the stage for agencies/ministries to commence the budget defence procedures of the House.
The unfortunate development has however led to the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Olorogun Williams Makinde, threatening to resign his position in the Commission following the quibble between him and Igbuya over the commission’s budget.
