Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta state has singled out the immediate past Governor of the State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan’s dedication of the State to God throughout his tenure as his greatest achievement.
Governor Okowa, at a family thanksgiving by Dr. Uduaghan for successfully governing the State for eight years at the First Baptist Church, Warri, weekend said that Dr. Uduaghan’s regular thanksgiving on behalf of the State Government and the changing of the State’s slogan the “Big Heart” to the “Finger of God” had become precedents which subsequent administrations would emulate.
Governor Okowa also paid tribute to the immediate past first Lady of the State, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan for taking the Gospel of Christ round the twenty five Local Government areas of the State.
He declared May 29 of every year as a day of praise unto God.
While appealing for prayers for his administration and correction where he may go wrong, Governor Okowa assured Dr. Uduaghan that he would always consult him in taking certain decisions affecting the State.
The Immediate past Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan in his remarks, said only history would judge what he achieved and he failed to achieve when he was governor for eight years.
Dr. Uduaghan flanked by his wife, Roli, paid tribute to all who contributed to the success of his political career including his political associates, the clergy and traditional rulers, saying having served Delta State for sixteen years as a Commissioner, Secretary to State government, he cherished the support of all.
He expressed satisfaction that the thanksgiving was well attended even after he had left office adding that the gesture was an indication of appreciation of his modest contribution to development in the state.
While counseled Deltans against rumour mongering, Dr. Uduaghan appealed to Deltans to be patient and tolerant of the Okowa administration stressing that cooperation would enable Governor Ifeanyi Okowa build on the achievements of the state.
The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Ishola Ademola in a sermon on “A celebration of the Lord’s goodness’’ said Dr. Uduaghan’s achievements stood him out as elder statesman.
