COMRADE Glory Odueme has emerged president of Irri town during the August conference as new executives has been elected to run the affairs of Irri Development Union for the next two years, held at the community hall Irri, Isoko South local government area of Delta State.
The free and fair election was by delegates from the six quarters and branches of the community, just as Comrade Glory Odueme defeated his close rival Mr. Jeffrey Omo-Irri with 63 to 53 votes, and was declared winnner by the chairman of the electoral committee Chief. Clement Oyibo (Bako)
Other elected members of the new executives are, Mr. Odio Monday Eto as Vice- President, Mr. Oletu Faithful as Secretary General, Mr. Emamode Edigbe Assistant Secretary, Mr. Oghale Christian Financial Secretary, Mr. Justine Ekee Treasurer, Mr. Oneke Benjamin Publicity Secretary, Mr. Abednego Jimmy Town planning chairman, Mr. Isike Othuke Town Planning Secretary, Mr. Unity Omoko as Marriage Commitee Chairman Mrs. Jenny Ugokpa as women leader respectively.
Speaking to newsmen, the elected President of Irri town, Comrade Glory Odueme commended the delegates and election umpire, noting that the new elected executives will unite the entire community.
Odueme assured the community of physical and human capital development and called on the son’s and daughters of Irri community to unite and form a formidable force to ensure equitable development of the community.
He noted that he will influenced projects from the state and local government, even as he promised to complete ongoing projects in Irri community.
He also promised to appeal to those in court to ensure that the cases are withdrawn from the court for peaceful settlement towards the progress of the community.
Odueme commended the outgoing executives led by Mr. Lucky Obuwaye, the representatives of Isoko South local government council and Isoko Development Union, the electoral committee and others who ensured that the election was successful.
Also speaking the chairman of Isoko South local government council represented by the Secretary to the local government, Mr. Vantus Ogbrogho thanked God Almighty for the success of the election, noting that there was initial palpable tension as a result of several disagreement.
He therefore enjoined the newly elected executives to carry both the winner and loser of the election along to ensure sustainable peace and development of the community.
Earlier, while declaring the conference open, HRM (Dr.) Joseph Aghagba, the regeant of Irri kingdom, urged the delegates and candidates to be peaceful, adding that successful leaders of the community are to serve the people and not for personal angradasement.
He also urged leaders of the community to be magnanimous in any position of leadership and ensure that the community enjoy existing peace and sustainable development.
