The immediate past Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Professor Asomwan Sonnie Adagbonyin, has commended the Member Representing Esan West, Esan Central and Igueben Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Marcus Onobun (KSC), for keeping his promise to fix access road in the University’s College of Medicine.

Professor Adagbonyin made the commendation on Tuesday while commenting on the progress made so far on the on-going construction of functional drainage system which will serve as a useful flood control measure to complement the road project also being embarked upon by Rt. Hon. Onobun.

Professor Adagbonyin recalled that in January, 2024, Onobun had personally called him to intimate him of his intention to do a project for the University.

“When he mentioned the College of Medicine, it was like a bolt from the blues, and both of us had agreed that the College of Medicine was an appropriate location for the project, considering its strategic importance to the University and based on the fact that a motorable, well-drained road had become desirable for the College and for its teeming students.

“Rt. Hon. Onobun, after our conversation, immediately requested me to do for him a Brief of Engineering Management and Evaluation, which I got the Physical Planning Unit to do. I forwarded to him in no time.”

The former Acting Vice Chancellor said, “On January 23rd, 2024, Rt. Hon. Onobun brought the good news of the approval of the budget for the project by the appropriate federal authorities. That excited me in no little way. On his part, the law maker’s enthusiasm was unabashed.”

Professor Adagbonyin informed that the Rt. Hon. Onobun was persistent on the implementation of the programme from the stage it was advertised by the Federal Ministry to when it was awarded. His zeal saw to it that months later, he was delivering on his promise.

“Note that he is not facing any impending election; note that he is not under pressure in any way. A promise keeper remains a promise keeper. I’m personally grateful to him for his unmitigated selflessness, commitment and interest in seeing this project through in Ambrose Alli University. I’m also proud to have given him my full support in the preparatory stages of the project during my time as Acting Vice Chancellor.”

Professor Adagbonyin described Rt. Honourable Onobun as a young, vibrant politician who has always loved Ambrose Alli University beyond being its worthy Alumnus. “He has an inviolate visionary acumen. I’m so happy about his important contribution to the development of the College of Medicine, and super glad to be seeing the progress of the project even when I’m out of office,”
Professor Adagbonyin said.

Checks by this reporter on the drainage which forms part of the road project shows it is more than fifty percent completed. Upon eventual completion the road project is expected to ease human and vehicular movement within the College, arrest erosion challenges and beautify the physical outlook of the College.
