The first executive governor of Delta State and former distinguished Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Olorogun Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru, is dead.
Olorogun Ibru, died at the age of 80, after a brief illness.
The former Governor was also a one-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also held the position of President General of the Urhobo Progressive Union (UPU).
*Okowa Condoles With Ibru Family Over Death of Former Governor
In a swift reaction to the demise of the elder statesman, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State commiserated with the family of first Civilian Governor of Delta State, and former Senator Representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Olorogun Senator Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru over the death of the former governor.
Okowa, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Charles Ehiedu Aniagwu, described the late Senator Ibru as a patriot and political icon who led the state in her embryonic stage.
Continuing, the Governor said Senator Ibru will be missed by all whose lives he has touched in many diverse ways in his very fulfilled and achievements-laden life.
He described Senator Ibru as a renowned politician, businessman and a highly revered octogenarian and among the very special people who made very significant and indelible contributions to their countries and humanity.
Okowa joined his family, friends, associates, and fans across the world in mourning the exit of a legend and in giving thanks to God Almighty for his glorious life of service to Delta State, Nigeria and mankind at large.
On behalf of the government and people of Delta State, I mourn the exit of a legend, political titan and first civilian governor of Delta State, Olorogun Senator Felix Ovuodoroye Ibru.
“Senator Ibru’s “life-long dedication and indefatigable commitment to serving the people of Delta State as well as the Urhobos worldwide where he served them meritoriously as Senator and as President of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) will be surely missed.
The Governor assured the Ibru family that the former governor would always be celebrated and honoured by his proud countrymen, women and children for his unblemished service and exemplary career which had inspired others to take up a life of selfless service to humanity.
*Ejakpovi Mourns Passage Of Ibru
CHAIRMAN, Governing Council, School of Health Technology (DESCOHTECH), Ofuoma-Ughelli, Dr. (Pharm.) Nelson Ejakpovi has described the death of the first civilian Governor of Delta State, Olorogun Felix Ibru as shocking.
Reacting to the death of Olorogun Ibru yesterday in a statement made available to newsmen, Dr Ejakpovi said Olorogun Ibru left when his wise counsel was still needed in the state, asserting, “we have lost a statesman, a technocrat and a democrat whose wise counsel based on experience was still important to our state and our country.”
“Those of us at the College of Health Technology, Ofuoma-Ughelli see his passage as a great loss but, we take solace in the fact that his legacies will stand the test of time,” Dr Ejakpovi said, adding, “we cannot forget the fact that it was in his time that the College of Health Technology which had churned out and is still churning out man-power for the health sector was established.”
He emphasized, “we have truly, lost a gem and while we mourn his passage, we cannot question God but, we at the College of Health Technology, Ofuoma commiserates with the Ibru family, the people of Delta Central, Delta State and all lovers of democracy on this great loss.”
*IBRU Governed Delta In Responsible Manner, Exhibited uncommon Leadership Qualities – Emerhor
While reacting to the demise of the erudite politician, the Leader of Delta State Chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC), Olorogun Otega Emerhor (OON) described Senator IBRU as a perfect gentleman who never soiled his fingers with public funds during his stewardship as first executive governor of Delta State.
EMERHOR who spoke through his Director of Media and Political Communication, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe in a statement released in Abuja, said Olorogun Felix IBRU governed the state in a responsible manner and exhibited uncommon leadership qualities during his tenure.
He urged the IBRU family to sustain their inestimable integrity which they have been able to manage effectively over several decades; pointing out that the exit of the former President-General of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) will be a great challenge which sons and daughters of Urhobo nation and indeed Deltans must reflect on to open a new chapter of peace and unity.
APC Delta mourns the exit of this great political leader and former first executive governor of our dear state. We pray God to grant the IBRU family and Deltans the fortitude to bear the exit of our beloved former governor, political associate, father, grand-father, brother, husband and leader, the statement added.
