The highest scorer in this year’s University Matriculation Examination in Delta Sate has been unveiled.
He is God’s favour Ebruphiyor Ufuoma-Okoro, a 16 year old student of All Sanits Secondary School, Udu who scored an aggregate of 357 over 400. This is only 10 marks lower than the highest scorer in the federation, Olowu David of Ondo State, Olayande David, Oyo State and Orukpe Joel of Edo State, the trio who took bracket first with a score of 367.
God’s favour Ebruphiyor Ufuoma-Okoro, who hails from Arhavwarien and Ovwodokpokpo-Olomu both in Ughelli South LGA of Delta State scored 95 in Mathematics, 75 in English Language, 94 in Physics and 93 in Chemistry.
The intelligent 16 year old who chose Federal University of Petroleum Resources and Chemical Engineering as an institution and course of first choice, respectively, is considering changing to artificial intelligence and University of Lagos as current realities demand. However, he is constrained by finances as his father who was formerly a banker lost his job some years back while his mother is a poor classroom teacher in a private secondary school in Warri.
The family appeals to both the Delta State Governor, His Excellency Sheriff F. O. Oborevwori and the Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Dr. Lucky Avwermre to come to their aid to ensure that their first son can acquire University education. In the mother’s words, “despite the high score of my son, I don’t know if he would be able to go to school because we cannot afford it. Since my husband lost his job with the bank, we have been struggling to feed and pay our rent. My husband has not been able to get another job. As a graduate of Statistics from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, I have tried to get a government job to no avail. That is why I am managing this private school teaching that I am doing, and the other children are still in secondary school, that we are still struggling to train. This is why I am calling on the Governor of our dear State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori and our Local Government Chairman Dr. Lucky Avweromre and public spurited individuals and philanthropists to come to our aid”.
