Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, Senator-elect for Delta North Senatorial District has received his Certificates of Return (CoR) from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Presenting the certificate of return to the governor in Asaba the Chairman of INEC Prof. Atahiru Jega, who was represented by the Federal INEC Commissioner in charge of Delta, Edo and Beyalsa states Dr Ishimel Igbani a said certificate of return was an important instrument in the electoral process.
He expressed satisfaction that his commission has delivered on its promise of organizing a free fair and credible election.
Recall that Okowa was not issued the Certificate of Return following a court injunction which had restrained INEC from issuing the said Certificate of Return until it was vacated by a team of lawyers at an Abuja High Court.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Okowa thanked his supporters for rallying round him in the course of his avowed determination to represent them at the Senate.
Dr. Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa was born on the 8th of July, 1959 at Owa-Alero in the present Ika North-East Local Government Area of Delta State.
He had his early education at the Iroro Primary School, Owa-Alero and later attended the famous Edo College, Benin City between 1970 and 1976 after which he proceeded to the University of Ibadan to study Medicine and Surgery and Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa graduated in1981 with MBBS, BS at the record age of 22.
Upon his completion of the National Youth Service Corps in 1982; he worked briefly with the defunct Bendel State Hospitals Management Board as a Medical Officer before he went into private practice as Director, Victory Medical Centre, Igbanke in 1986 which he replicated at Boji-Boji, Owa.
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, who displays a highly developed craftsmanship in his work later, took interest in the public service and politics which has endeared him with outstanding success. He became Secretary to the Ika Local Government and pioneer Chairman, Ika North-East Local Government Council (1991-1993). He was Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources (July 1999 to April 2001); Commissioner for Water Resources Development (April 2001 – May 2003); Commissioner for Health (September 2003 – October 2006).
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa resigned to contest the 2007 gubernatorial election in Delta State and later became Secretary to Delta state Government (SSG) until he resigned to contest for the Delta North Senatorial seat which he won resoundingly at both the party primaries and during the last National Assembly election in the state. He is a humble and an ideal family man is happily married to Dame (Mrs.) Edith Okowa and the union is blessed with four brilliant children.
