As Deltans at home and in the Diaspora celebrate the 27th Anniversary of the creation of Delta State, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bashorun (Hon.) Askia Ogieh JP, says the state has recorded more gains than loses since its creation on August 27, 1991.
The Executive Director (Finance and Administration) at the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), who lauded Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa for ensuring sustainable peace and development across the three senatorial districts in the state, explained that these strides had led to the growing support of all Deltans for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Bashorun Askia, who promised better deals for Deltans also urged them not to relent in their total support to the administration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa so as to enjoy more dividends of democracy in the years ahead.
According to him, “We have recorded a lot of achievement in terms of political and socio-economic transformation in the greater part of the years since the state’s creation, spanning from the visionary governance of Chief James Onanefe Ibori who set down the development template and platform for the transformation of this state till date.
“Today, Delta State is tagged as one of the fastest growing states amongst the comity of states in the country due to the sustained landmark development feat of successive PDP led administrations which have taken Delta state to both national and international limelight.”
He therefore appealed to Deltans to remain steadfast in their support of the people oriented government policies and initiatives of incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by maintaining the existing ethnic peace and harmony in the state to attract more investors and development to the state.
“What the people of Delta state crave for now is sustainable peace to fast-track the development process being driven by His Excellency Governor Ifeanyi Okowa through job and wealth creation, agricultural reforms, road infrastructure, urban-rural transformaion, peace building as well as education and health for all Deltans.
“The successful hosting of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba from August 1-5 2018, has further confirmed beyond all doubts that Delta State is indeed a home of peace, security and hospitality.
“Deltans are happy today because they elected a God-fearing and humble man with the Midas touch, whose only goal is to improve on the lives of the people by delivering on his electoral pledges. That is also why they have vowed to re-elect him for a second time because the projects and programmes of the governor were campaigning for him ahead of the 2019 general elections”, Bashorun Askia confirmed.
