Ahead of the 2015 governorship election in Delta state and the need for a generally accepted candidate with people oriented initiatives, notable politicians in Ika North-East Local Government Area of the state have described Chief Godwill Obielum as a leader who is detribalized and believes in collective approach to governance.
The politicians who met under the auspices of Delta Progressive Movement (DPM), Ika North-East Local Government Area chapter stated that Chief Obielum’s leadership qualities have made it obvious for Deltans to support him to emerge as the Governor of the state in the 2015 gubernatorial elections.
Those who spoke at the meeting which took place at Umunede include the coordinator of DPM in the area, Hon. Sunday Ihieme; Mr. Chuks Okolie; Mr. Godwin Obaigbena and Mrs. Anthonia Anyaeze.
They stated that they had to convene the meeting which witnessed a large turnout of people to make Deltans know that the people of Ika North East LGA are fully in support of Chief Godwill Obielum to emerge as the next Governor of Delta State after Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan’s tenure has ended.
Hon. Ihieme specifically said, “Chief Obielum is well known to us, he is not a new person in Delta State politics, we know how he has empowered Deltans no matter where you are from through the Obielum Foundation and we know that the man have the ability to move Delta State to the next level.”
“Every ethnic group in the state are supporting Chief Obielum and we want to also, let him know that we believe in him, we want him to be our next Governor and we are happy with him as a person,” Hon. Ihieme said, adding, “Delta Progressive Movement is for progressive minds who are in the PDP because Chief Obielum is a progressive person who believes in carrying everybody along in his activities, that is the man we want to be our next Governor and we are working for him.”
While Mr. Obaigbena said, “with Chief Godwill Obielum, Obielumani (my mind is at rest) is the will of God for Delta people and Delta State, because he would provide good leadership,” Mr. Okolie emphasized, “this is not about politics, this is a movement, though we are all in the PDP but I can tell you that those who are not politicians are also, members of DPM and we believe that because of our support for Chief Obielum, people in opposition political parties will leave their parties and join us, we all like Chief Obielum because he is matured, experienced, an achiever and God fearing, he will be a good Governor.”
In her contribution, Mrs. Anyaeze stated that women would be mobilized to work for Chief Obielum because, he empowers women and youths and also has good knowledge of security, asserting, “Chief Obielum is a blessing for Delta State and we want to continue to share in that blessing, that is why we must work for him to be the next Governor of our state.”
