The less privileged and vulnerable residents of Okpe –Isoko community, Isoko North local government area of Delta State, have received food items from Isoko North political leaders and distributed through the President General of the community, Dr. Alloy Okpelogbo to chairmen of the 13 streets in the area.
Speaking to news correspondent’s, Dr. Okpelogbo commended Isoko North political class for the food items, describing it as timely intervention towards alleviating the present hardship faced by the people, occasioned by COVID 19 pandemic lockdown.
He noted that the less privileged were identified from the streets and names written to ensure that the food items get to them and not diverted. Okpelogbo stated that, the food items received were garri, rice, beans, salt and indomie noodles for distribution to the people of the community.
The President General revealed that, additional bags of rice and beans were purchased from joint contribution put together by illustrious sons of the community led by Comrade Felix Ofou, Board Chairman Delta Broadcasting Service Asaba, to cushion the effects of the stay at home order.
He added that the initiative for additional food items is by Comrade Ofou, noting that more food items will be provided for distribution next week.
Dr. Okpelogbo while assuring of peaceful distribution of the items, emphasized that the community town crier has sensitized the people on the modality for the distribution, saying, “Any person that flouts the rules of sharing the food items will be find twenty thousand Naira (N20,000)”. He noted that the streets with more population will receive larger quantities of the items.
While commending Isoko North political class and Comrade Ofou food bank initiative committee for the food items, Mr.Akpojere Oku, representing the chairmen from the streets, prayed God’s blessings and protection for the donors even as he requested for more palliatives.
Also Mrs. Comfort Igbenu, Vice President of the women wing of Okpe–Isoko said, “The women are happy for the food items, we pray God to bless all who provided the items”.
She assured of equitable distribution, noting that the 13 streets chairmen will go directly to the streets and share among the women as agreed by the residents.
Also the Publix Relation Officer of the community, Prince Silvanus Osiogo, commended the donors and assured of peaceful and effective distribution of the food items just as the vulnerable beneficiaries will be reached accordingly.
Recall that Isoko North political leaders presented food items worth 10M Naira for distribution to the less privileged persons in the 13 clans of Isoko North local government area of Delta State, to cushion the effects of COVID 19 pandemic lockdown in the area.
