COMMUNIQUE ISSUED AT THE END OF THE 18TH ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING AND DELEGATES CONVENTION OF THE AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY ALUMNI ASSOCIATION WORLDWIDE HELD AT THE CHRIS OYAKHILOME HALL, AMBROSE ALLI UNIVERSITY MAIN CAMPUS EKPOMA FROM FRIDAY 26TH TO SATURDAY 27TH OCTOBER 2024

The Ambrose Alli University Alumni Association Worldwide, Ekpoma held her 18th Annual General Meeting and Delegates Convention at the weekend in Ekpoma. At the end of the convention with the theme: Alumni Associations: Catalysts for Innovation and Quality in 21st Century University Education, the convention noted with satisfaction recent developments in the university which includes the disbandment of the Special Intervention Team (SIT) and the appointment of a Governing Council for the University.

The convention wishes to extend its sincere gratitude to the Edo State Governor, His Excellency, Godwin Obaseki, for inaugurating the Governing Council and appointing Dr. Clifford Imade Esivweneta Oghenekevwode Naira Omozeghian, Worldwide President of the Alumni Association, as a member representing varied stakeholders. We strongly advocate for the continuation of this council, which has become an established tradition, fostering alumni engagement and ownership within the university community.

The Convention also congratulates the Governor,-Elect Sen. Monday, Okpebholo, aka Akpakomiza, for his well-deserved victory at the polls and wishes him success in his tenure of office, while appealing to him to focus attention on the Ambrose Alli University which was the glory of the state to ensure that the legacy of Prof. Ambrose Folurunso Alli does not die.

The convention unanimously adopted a resolution calling upon the Visitor to the University to commence the amendment process of the Ambrose Alli University Law. The proposed amendment aims to establish the University Alumni Association as the sole nominating body for the Convocation representative on the Governing Council.

The attention of the convention was drawn to a protest by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) against the council election into convocation representative and convention called on ASUU to give peace a chance and partner with the alumni association and the university management to move the university forward.

The convention also congratulated the Ag. Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sunday, Olowo Samuel, on his appointment and implored him to partner with the Alumni Association to take the university to an enviable height. Convention also requests the AVC to, as a matter of urgency, appoint an alumni relations officer who should be a high ranking officer in the administrative cadre to assist the alumni association in its current reform.

While reviewing the cordial relationship between the Ambrose Alli University and the Esan West Local Government Council, the Convention appreciated the Chairman and called on him to restore the remittance of one percent of the Local Government statutory allocation to a joint committee of the University and the local government council to aid in infrastructural development of the University as it was during the military era.

The Convention recognized the existence of two branches in the Federal Capital Territory to be known as the Abuja branch and the FCT branch, respectively. Convention also directed that the Sapele  and the Sapele Main branches are to be brought back together under one umbrella as Sapele branch. Convention noted that any new branch wishing to come on board must be scrutinized by the Committee on the establishment of new branches to ensure that they meet the requirements before they are introduced to NEC and properly inaugurated

Convention noted with satisfaction the efforts of the Worldwide President, Dr. Clifford Imade Omozeghian in extending the olive branch to all aggrieved persons and branches as fall outs from the 2022 Convention and election and commended him for his sagacity and large heartedness in fostering unity within the Alumni family.

Convention enjoins all branches to pay up their exams and records building levies before the end of the first quarter of 2025 to ensure speedy completion of the project.

The convention announced the establishment of awards of the sum of N100,000 each as prize to the best graduating student in each faculty to encourage students in the pursuit of  excellence.
