The Managing Director/CEO of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC) Bashorun Askia Ogieh FCNA, CrFA) has applauded the roles of the “Ambassador of Girl Child, South South”, Queen Idara Ekong and that of “Miss Premier, Nigeria”, Queen Esther Bernard respectively.
Bashorun Askia Ogieh, stated this in Warri, Friday, while playing host to the two damsels, who were accompanied by their Manager, Ubeca Charles.
Receiving the delegation in his usual warmly attitude, Bashorun Askia opined that in spite of the fact that their visit and role appeared to be a duplication of similar ones that might have taken place in the past, he found their course a worthy one.
Earlier, The Ambassador of Girl Child, South South, Queen Idaka, speaking on behalf of the delegation said, their mission to Delta state, which is part of their mandate area, was to catch the children young and to improve on their educational standards.
At the primary school level, they were seeking to provide basic needs like slippers, school bags, books and stationery, to indigent pupils, she said.
On the other hand, at the secondary school level, their focus was to counsel students, provide them with vital sex education tips; then distribute sanitary wares to the girls and condoms to the boys, at the end, she proferd.
The South South Girl Child Ambassador appealed to the MD/CEO to assist them in meeting their modest budget of N1.5m to procure the items needed to achieve their charity work.
Bashorun Askia however promised to look at their request and revert in good time.
Highlight of the visit was the presentation of a very colorful African print fabric to the MD/CEO by Queen Idara.
Top Management staff present at the meeting were DG, Hope Alive, Chief Godspower Obaro, HOD, Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Engr, Efe Aluta and the Chief Security Officer, Engr Lawrence Eduje. Others were the MD/CEO’s Special Assistant (Technical), Barr. (Mrs) Ewomazino Duku and HOD Media and Public Affairs, Mrs Chinenye Ezonfade.
