A 29 man Warri Wolves team led by Chief Emeka Inyama and Davidson Owumi touched down in Doula on Thursday afternoon in reradiness of their clash with Union Doula Football Club coming up today, Saturday, March 1, 2014..
The team comprising 18 players and 10 officials left the Murtala Mohammed Airport at 11.10am and landed at 12.30pm with the Football Federation from the host Country on hand to ferry the team to their hotel.
However, the team was shocked to discover that the hotel, Akena City Hotel situated in Akwa area, Commercial Avenue of the Town has no water with the beds confirmed to be too small for a decent huan being.
The President of the host team, Frank Happy expressed dissappointment with the hotel arrangement but claimed it was the FA that provided the accommodation which is nothing to write home about.
The players who travelled with the team include goalkeeper Okiemut Odah, Ambrose Vanzekin, Goodluck Onamado, Ike ThankGod, Ojo Mine, Oke Ogagotewho, Uche Ossai, Egbeta Michael, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Musa Najare and Achibi Ewenike.
Others are Oghenekaro Etebo, Dimgba Stanley, Joshua Obaje,Efe Yarhere, Bright Akpojuvwewo and Kola Anubi while the officals are Davidson Owumi, Lawrence Omowho, Coach Paul Aigbogun, Sam Okpodu, Moses Etu, the Media Manager, Team Doctor Edike Ifeanyi, and Mattias and an Official of the Sports Commission, Mrs Mercy Awolor while Chief Emeka Inyama and Danladi Alanana came from the Nigeria Football Federation.
Speaking on the antics of the host Federation, Owumi who is used to it urged the players to remin focussed and get ready for the battle ahead.
“I am used to this type of antics but we should not allow this to distract us as we are here for a crucial assignment. I am not used to failure and I know that you will not fail me”, said Owumi.
Meanwhile, the Warri Wolves team on Thursday rejected Akena City Hotel, provided by Cameroon Football Association after it was discovered that they were out to fustratetheir efforts at having a conducive atmosphere before there cracker against Union Douala FC.
The Warri based team had been cajoled into accepting the place believing that they would provide and update some of the things that they complained about.
However, when the team returned from their first training and discovered that there was no water for the players to bath; they had no choice but to make an alternative arrangement.
The players thereafter heaved a sighof relief when they relocated to Somatel Hotel located in Bali area of the ancient City of Douala.
Earlier on at the training ground, hundreds of fans came out to catch a glimpse of the Nigerian team with some of thempointing four fingersindicating that they will win by four goals.
Meanwhile,the players have vowed toplay theur hearti out so as tomake the second leg an easy one for them.
Speaking after their evening prayer; Uche OSSAI who maylikely captain the teamin the absence of Azubuike Eguekwe who is away with the Super Eagles said they are aware of the task ahead and will not allow anything to distract them.
The head of the delegationof Warri Wolves FC to Douala for the CAF Confederation Cup match against Union Douala FC; Chief Emeka Inyama therefore charged the players of the Warri based team to remain calm and focussed in the match now that they have succeeded in neutralising the efforts of the host FA to furstrate them by given them a good accommodation.
Inyama spoke with journalists after their training on Friday morning said he came with an aura of luck and believed that with the caliber of players the team brought;they should be able to play a good game.
“What we have succeeded in doing is winning the physchological war by relocating the team from Akena City Hotel to Somatel Hotel. With that, I expect the players to be calm and play their game. I am here with an aura of luck and I know that the players will not disappoint”, said Inyama who is the head of media and publicity in the glass house.
Meanwhile, Coach Paul Aigbogun is expected to line up the likes of Okiemute Odah in goal, Ike ThankGod spearheading the defence while the midfield is to be achored by Ibenegbu Ikechukwu and the attack led by prolific scorer, Oghenekaro Etebo.
