THE Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, sitting in Asaba, has dismissed the petition filed by Chief Great Ovedje Ogboru.
Justice Nasir Gunmi, who heads the three-man Tribunal during the ruling today, dismissed the petition for lack of merit, amid tight security in around the Court premises.
The Tribunal also awarded N50,000 cost each against the Petitioners ( Ogboru and Labour Party)
Ogboru is challenging the declaration of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa as the winner of the 2015 governorship poll in the state, by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
But Chairman of the Labour Party in the state, Chief Tony Ezeagwu expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling, insisting to head to the Appeal Court. He advised party members to be calm.
Meanwhile, the ruling on a suit EPT/DT/GOV/32/2015 and EPT/DT/GOV/23/2015, filed by Olorogun O’tegha Emerhor and APC who approached the tribunal to nullify Okowa’s election on the ground of non-compliance with relevant sections of the Electoral Act was still ongoing at the time of filing this report.
