Nigeria, October 10, 2015, (Blank NEWS Online) – By Our Crime Reporter
ONE person was reportedly killed and several others injured in a clash between youths of Asaba and Ibusa in Delta state, following claims of ownership of Umuodafe Isiuzo farm land, near the office of the Nigeria Immigration Service.
It was disclosed that while the clash lasted, one Mr. Christopher, a pale loader operator allegedly was killed on the spot. A source in Ibusa said the body has been deposited in the General Hospital mortuary at Ibusa.
Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Celestina Kalu proved abortive but anonymous Police source claimed that the Police Command would issue a statement on the incident but could not explain further.
While awaiting reactions from youth leaders in Asaba who promised to get detailed information before responding, the National President of Ibusa Youth Council (IYC), Comrade Alfred Isoh blamed the state government and security agencies for relenting to act despite series of complaint over the ensuing land dispute.
Addressing the press today, Saturday, September 10, 2015 at Asaba, Comrade Isoh said but for his intervention, there would have been full blown war. “Since yesterday, I have been going round to calm our people, believing that government will intervene but, it seems that government is handicapped as the Police have not responded,” he said.
Comrade Isoh however alleged that, “the people of Asaba have been making move to take over the area, we wrote petitions to the Police, we relied on the Police but, you see that the Police cannot protect us, we are watching, tension is high but, for how long? This is where some persons earn their living and we cannot continue to keep silent in the face of attack.”
According to him, “it was on Friday when heavily armed youths from Asaba invaded our beach at Umuodafe Isiuzo, behind the Immigration office, shooting sporadically, because, our people were taken unaware, the people were just carrying out their daily chores to eke out a living when the attackers came, of course, the workers took to their heels but the pale loader operator, Christopher was not so lucky as he was killed on the spot.”
