The Governorship Candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, Dr Azemhe Azena has appealed for calm and peaceful resolution of the brewing crisis, as the students of the state-owned Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, protests over the school Management’s decision to close registration against many students who could not complete their registration as a result of non-payment of school fees at the stipulated time, despite their entreaties to the school management.
Sources close to the school confirmed that the students became agitated when it was becoming obvious that the management will not listen to their plea and therefore went ahead to lock the entrance gate to the school, locking out both students and staff of the institution this morning.
The Governorship Candidate who spoke in a viral video from his base in Italy where he’s been consulting with Edo indigenes in the diaspora in relation to the upcoming governorship election in Edo state, equally appealed to the management of the school to consider the plight of the students as things are generally tough with them on campus as a result of the prevailing economic conditions in the nation.
Dr Azemhe Azena who is equally a student in the Law faculty of the University said that he has for several times, paid school fees for some indigent students while adding that late registration by many students was not intentional.
“Things are hard and surviving as a student on campus is becoming a Herculean task, the more reason the school management must temper justice with mercy” he said.
The Governorship Candidate, however, appealed to the students not to take laws into their hands no matter the provocation.
