–Blank NEWS Online (NIGERIA) – By JOHNSON EBIGIDE:
The truism that no matter how a black anthill is disturbed from rising to its peak, it would still wear its natural cap, even stunted in growth, came to the fore during the 2019 Delta State NUJ Press Week / Lectures/ Award/ Fund Raising , held at the David’s Event Centre in Asaba. It is also true that no matter how one determinedly tries to submerge a calabash in the river, even broken it would resurface after its tribulations !
Comrade Osita Biose, aka Ojogu, is an archetypal of those putting in their best in the society towards the uplifting of humanity, but whose efforts are either derided or ignored as insignificant. But a golden fish is never hidden in a shallow water. Such is Comrade Biose’s quintessence, which glowed so much that the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Delta State thought it wise to announce it to the public through an award.
Presenting Comrade Biose with the prestigious award of “The Worthy Peace Ambassador Of NUJ” during the well attended occasion, the Chairman of the Delta State Council of NUJ, Comrade Mike Ikeogwu, maintained that Comrade Biose laid the foundation of the prevailing peace upon which the union is fast growing in the state, noting that it was proper to recognise the source of the unity of purpose in the union after many years of rancour and bickering among members of the union in the state, just as he thanked Comrade Biose for his untiring support for the union in the state and beyond.
Responding, Comrade Biose, who was visibly surprised with the announcement of the award for him, thanked the leadership of the union in the state for deeming him worthy of the award, adding that he had burning passion to see the union grow to greater heights in an atmosphere of peace in the state and beyond, just as he said that the award would spur him to do more for the union.
The NUJ Peace Ambassador enjoined members to always rally round the leadership of the union, saying that no human is infallible, even as he urged the leadership of the union to be responsive, accountable and exhibit high sense of integrity towards creating the much needed trust and confidence of members, which he said was necessary for the growth of the union in the state and beyond.
Indeed, it was a great moment for the union in the state ! Comrade Biose, a one time Chairman of the State Council of NUJ, deserves the award for not only returning lasting peace to the council of the NUJ when he presided, but for working assiduously in nurturing the peaceful coordination of the various chapels of the union in the state. Congratulations, Ojogu !
