The Delta state police command has recovered over seven thousand permanent voters cards (PVCS) and registers, allegedly stolen from the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) by unknown gun men in the state.
The gun men were said to have, on Monday, February 10, 2015, stormed the INEC office at Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State and made away with over six thousand permanent voters cards (PVCs) and registers.
A dependable source has disclosed to Blank NEWS Online that certain unnamed, desperate politicians, were responsible for the act.
The Delta state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Celestina Kalu, DSP, who confirmed the incident said the stolen PVCs have been recovered and a total of seven thousand three hundred and sixty five (7,365) were seen, adding that investigation is in progress while some of the persons involved in the crime have been rounded up.
Kalu, in a statement made available to Blank NEWS Online and dated 19th February 2015, said detectives in a follow-up investigation have arrested a 46 years old Lucky Aputu of Oji Aputu compound, Onyobulu inland market Road, Oghara and recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him.
The statement reads:
“On 10/2/2015 at about 2238hrs one Ajiah Shakira Adewale ‘m’ of INEC office, Oghara in Ethiope West L.G.A. of Delta State reported at the Police Station Oghara that on 09/2/2015 at about 2130hrs, unknown gun men broke into INEC office Oghara and made away with six thousand permanent voters cards (PVCS) and registers. He added that he was suspecting the security guards who were on night duty.
“Based on the report, detectives swung into action and arrested the said security guards, one Aherebe Godday ‘m’, Omajemite Justice ‘m’ and Oyubu Ejiro ‘m’, for interrogation.
“However the stolen PVCs have been recovered and a total of seven thousand three hundred and sixty five (7,365) were seen.
“Similarly, detectives in a follow-up investigation arrested one Lucky Aputu ’m’, aged 46yrs of Oji Aputu compound, Onyobulu inland market Road, Oghara and recovered one of the stolen INEC registers from him.
“Meanwhile, investigation is in progress; while efforts are on to ensure that all those involved in the crime are rounded up. The PVCs have since been handed over to INEC.”
