Ahead of the 2015 polls, the senator representing Delta North Senatorial district at the National Assembly, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has on Monday, October 20, formally declared his intention to contest in the governorship election of Delta State.
During the declaration in Asaba, Okowa, who is vying on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) asserted that Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan would likely hand-over to him come May 29, 2015.
According to him, “No matter what you hear, our friendship cannot be washed away. Uduaghan is my friend, he is my mentor, he is my Oga and I believe he is remaining neutral in the selection process of the governorship candidate of the PDP in next year’s election.”
He further insisted that he was the best material for the 2015 governorship race, adding that he would consolidate on Governor Uduaghan’s achievements and bring hope to Deltans.
Senator Okowa, who is Chairman, Senate Committee on Health as well as the first Director-General of Emmanuel Uduaghan Campaign Organisation, said “He (Uduaghan) is my mentor, he is my Oga and he knows that I am the best for Delta State. This project is Divine and God has approved of it, hence there is no one that can stop us.”
He listed his areas of focus to include wealth creation and employment generation; peace building platforms; agricultural reforms and industrialisation; health and educational development; and environment and urban renewal.
He however joined in the support for the re-election bid of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Present at the event were former Information Minister, Prof. Sam Oyovbaire, Hon. Michael Diden (aka Ejele), Prof. Okaba, Hon Ocho Ocho, Chief Thomas Eriyetome, Hon George Ekpemupolo, Brother Emma Ogidi, Capt. Pius Sinebe (rtd), Hon Askia Ogieh, and Hon Ovie Agas, Rt. Hon Martins Okowa, member representing Ika South Constituency in the Delta House of Assembly and Dr. Kingsley Emu, Delta State Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, amongst others.
